Literary Element #5: Point of View Point of view is the way an author chooses to tell (narrate) a story. It is sometimes called voice. There are two types of point of view: A story can be narrated by a character. This is called first person point of view. The words "I" and "we" are used by the narrator. A story can be told by a nameless central observer outside the story. This is called third person point of view. The words "he" and "she" are used by the narrator.
